TRIMMING THE TREE WITH GRIMEY!

It's Grimey Tree time! Side note, I just said that in my head the same way the red ranger yells "It's morphing time!" before the Power Rangers suit up for battle against weird monsters covered in eyeballs. You get the picture; I'm stoked! I hope to make the Grimey Tree an annual thing where I use unconventional items to dress my tree. The purpose? Just something to break the norm. Having a traditional Christmas tree can be both fine and dandy; I love decorating those as well. Having a tree where you can be care free and throw whatever the fuck you want on it, however, can be a lot of fun too!
So, last years tree, which I decided not to write about on the site, was decked out with just about anything I could fit on it. From Nickelodeon characters found at Dollar Tree, to cotton candy cocoons, to Ninja Turtle key chains-turned ornaments, and even a container of Gak for the star; it had a lot going on. This year, I wanted to do something a little different and stick to a theme, so I chose Gremlins! If you've seen Gremlins, you know it's a silly horror/holiday movie. We won't go into much detail about that but if you haven't seen the movie, get on that shit, ya slacker! No better time than the holidays!
I purchased this tree last year from goodwill for about $10 or less.... I really can't remember the exact price. What I do remember is how awful it smells.... mostly like an ash tray. I assumed it would've lost a little bit of that smell being aired out and sprayed a few times but…not even a little bit. It's a pre-lit little guy; not that it would take many lights to look decent but this does make matters a little easier. I only wish they were multicolored because nothing says 90s Christmas tree like multicolored lights!
The amount of Gremlin figures I've amassed in the past couple years sort of escaped me until I purchased my 7th and 8th figure. Who cares if they're basically all the same figure? They each come with sweet accessories and packaging to differentiate them enough for people like me to throw stupid amounts of money at them for close to no good reason. The lineup consists of regular old Gremlin, Gamer Gremlin, Winter 2 pack Gremlins, Unofficial Summer Games Gremlin, Flasher Gremlin, Ultimate Stripe & Gizmo, and the brand new Target exclusive Santa Stripe. I didn't add any ornaments so I'm going into this with the mindset that the Gremlins are the ornaments for now.
I added some cheap gold tinsel style garland from Dollar Tree. I bought 2 of them but clearly only needed one. 20 feet of garland for a dollar... can't beat that. Oh, and remember a couple articles ago when I told you I made some popcorn garland for my "new thing to try" this holiday season? This may or may not have been the whole reason I made said garland. I really wish this tree didn't smell like cigarettes; buttered popcorn and cigarettes really makes for an awful combination.
I didn't have high hopes for this to turn out as well as I feel like it did in the end. I had about a thousand different "Nailed It" style images in my head pre-decorating but... meh, not too shabby. I'd say it's at least a solid 4th place in an unconventional Christmas tree decorating contest. But, there you have it! Technically the 2nd but I'm going to go ahead and give it the title of the FIRST OFFICIAL Grimey Tree, considering this is the first one that’s been properly documented. And with that, I invite you all to decorating your tree out of the ordinary. It really can be a lot of fun and I recommend it to anyone who has the time. Thanks for reading!
